Imagine you're up, bags packed, looking around the airport, before jet-setting 31,000ft in the air, staring at the blue skies below you. This is it; you feel the plane begin to land, and before you know it, you're slapped in the face with 30-degree heat and butterflies in your tummy. It's the holiday season, baby! Here's your guide to all things travel fragrance this summer!
If you're not going away this summer, why not read about the history of perfume.
Fragrance Travel Laws
We've all been there, scrambling to stuff our travel liquids into a tiny ziplock bag before security, in what feels like the world's most challenging game of Tetris. That’s because the UK and many other airports have strict laws for carrying liquids, including fragrances when travelling.
Hand Luggage
Perfumes and beauty products are often among airport security's most confiscated items, with Stansted Airport revealing they collected over three tonnes of perfume in 2019. According to the Gov.uk website, the following restrictions exist for liquids in the United Kingdom when travelling with just hand luggage.
- The liquid contained must not hold more than 100ml
- All containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag that is approximately 20cm x20cm and does not exceed a litre
- The contents of your plastic bag must fit comfortably, and allow the bag to be resealed
- Bags cannot be knotted or tied closed
- Each traveller is entitled to 1 single plastic bag
- The bag must be shown during security checks at the airport
If you're looking to take hand luggage and a 20cm x 20cm plastic bag doesn't have enough space, it may be worth considering a mini fragrance! Our luxury, affordable fragrances are available as rollerballs or mini samples at The Essence Vault. This makes travelling with your favourite fragrances easier than ever!
Hold Luggage
Hold luggage is ultimately the best option if you're looking to travel with more liquid products. However, the prices for adding a hold bag onto your holiday booking can leave you stuffing endless items into a tiny little carry-on, desperate for it to shut the night before you jet off.
Here is everything you can take liquid-wise in your hold luggage:
- All drinks, including water
- Semi-liquid foods, like soup, jam, honey and syrups
- Cosmetics and toiletries, including perfumes, oils, mascara and lip gloss
- Sprays, which include shaving foam, hairspray and deodorant
- Pastes, including toothpaste
- Gel products like hair and shower gel
- Contact lens solution
- Other solutions which are consistent with the ones above
Is Duty-Free Fragrance Really a Steal?
A duty-free walk-through feels like the gift that keeps giving: fragrance offers, discounts on tipples, and luxury cosmetics. In general, some products do tend to be a lot cheaper than your average shop shelves. This is because of the lack of tax; however, some luxury beauty products and electronics might not always meet the discounted expectations.
Instead of being caught by pure temptation, why not consider ditching the designer price tags and investing in a designer-inspired fragrance from The Essence Vault, where luxury meets affordability in quality, vegan and cruelty-free fragrances?
Magical Minis
Minis are essential when jetting off on your holibobs as they're easier to fit in your luggage allowance if you travel with hand luggage. To take all your essentials abroad, we recommend investing in the smaller versions of your faves.
When it comes to fragrances, we have you covered, including our collection of travel-size perfumes (30ml), rollerballs, and sample sizes!
Smelling Good in the Heat
If you're an avid reader of our blog, you'll know we've shared our tips and tricks for how to make a perfume last longer a whole bunch of times! But we know smelling good when its hot is more challenging than the everyday scent experience!
Here are some tips for smelling good in the heat:
Roll-On
Some holidaymakers opt for rollerball perfumes; they're unbelievably underrated and are perfect for travelling! They're small, compact, and full of anywhere between 1 and 10ml of fragrance!
They'll fit into your hand luggage plastic bag and sometimes last longer than regular spray perfumes on your skin. This is because the scent is applied directly to the skin and doesn't evaporate as quickly as spray perfumes do.
Scented Lotions
Picture this: you've just touched down, it's hot, maybe even too hot. You make it to your hotel, open up your luggage, and you’re hit with an intense scent. Yep, that’s right, your perfume has exploded.
While moisturisers and lotions can be prone to some unplanned leaks, if you're heading somewhere hot, you're going to need to bring a bottle or two regardless to maintain hydrated skin. By choosing a scented moisturiser and lotion for your holiday, you're taking care of your skin and ensuring you smell fresh.
Our Final Thoughts
On holiday, everyone wants to feel, smell and look their best! Having the right fragrance whilst travelling can make a massive difference. When packing light with hand luggage only, consider investing in mini sprays or rollerballs.
Our team at The Essence Vault don’t believe that smelling good should break the bank, so our designer-inspired selection of fragrances are available at prices you’ll adore. So, pack smart this summer and enjoy your holidays whilst smelling good and feeling good!
